New Classes

The world of Rolcaria introduces two new classes into the mix that fit the setting of its own world and other worlds may you so choose to add them.

The Summoner

Summoners are mysterious beings scattered amongst and wandering between the many continents of Rolcaria. They utilize the life-force energy of the creatures they’ve encountered or slain to recreate identical copies to loyally serve them.

Creating a Summoner

When creating a summoner, consider what gave them this innate power. Did they study for it, or was it a part of their lineage? Perhaps they were raised in the wilds, where they learned to bond with animals in ways others could not, or perhaps they were taken in at a young age at a summoner institute to grow their potential and become more powerful. Maybe they were gifted the power from a powerful creature who owed them one, or perhaps they naturally felt attuned to forces of nature.

Overview of Abilities

Summoners are masters of physical soul recreation, able to recreate creatures they've bonded with or taken the soul of after defeating them in combat.

Using their abilities, they can summon additional allies and turn the tide of any seemingly overwhelming battle with the right choice of creature.

The Dragonknight

Dragon knights are known throughout the world of Rolcaria as fierce warriors. Some are known as great defenders of their cities, while others lead bands of raiders looking to loot and pillage whatever town they come across. Regardless of the dragon with which they ride or walk, a dragon knight and their dragon should never be underestimated.

A Bond Like No Other

A dragon knight and their dragon share an unbreakable bond, a connection formed over years of training and traveling together to hone their craft in combat. On top of this shared experience, many of these dragon knights share a soul connection with their dragon companion.

Modular Dragon Companion

With help from my playtesters, we’ve discovered that some dragons fit specific roles better than others when using the Dragon Knight Class. A Bullback Dragon would be a prime candidate for the Gatecrasher class, while a Shadameer dragon would seem thematically and physically unsuited to that role. Oppositely, a Shadameer dragon would fit the role of a Harbinger’s companion, which sneaks around and launches barrages at range from the air, while the Bullback dragon is a lumbering mound of powerful muscle that would not fit into the sneaking role.

So, in this regard, we’ve designed a system to allow players to build "Modular Dragons." This allows the players to create a dragon that suits their roleplaying and gameplay needs. This is also intended to give the sense of the dragon growing alongside the player instead of immediately feeling as if it is too strong for most encounters.
